    4. FosPower4000 vs Raynic5000 - true comparison
      Rating
      80%
This review will go over the pros and cons of the FosPower 4000 versus the Raynic 5000. Both are great units with a few key pros/cons for each that will determine which one you pick as your device. They cost virtually the same: First the Pros of the FosPower4000 - Build quality is top notch - it just feels solid without being heavy at all - The dynamo for the hand charger secured nicely and is easily retreivable - The bright to dimmer flashlight options are excellent and more versatile - The carabiner that is included is top notch - Limited LIFETIME Warranty (wow!) - Rechargeable battery easily accessible for replacement if necessary The Cons of the FosPower4000 - implying 4000 mAh battery - Only 2 ways to charge it; USB and solar; USB cable included but no plug - The manual tuning dial buttons are not the best way to go when you need quick access to a Weather band - No headphone jack - 8 times out of 10 when I grabbed it, I accidentally hit the SOS button; no button-lock feature - Handcrank does not feel smooth when turned Now for the Pros of the Raynic5000 - implying 5000mAh battery - Build quality if good but not as solid feeling as the FosPower - 4 (FOUR) ways to keep this one charged; USB, Solar, Handcrank and AAA batteries - Button-lock feature for no accidental pressing of SOS buttons - Regardless of the above line, the SOS button is out of the way, so even if not locked there is no chance of accidentally hitting it - Digital tuner - this is awesome for QUICKLY selecting the appropriate weather band - Backlit (can be turned off) Digital display for battery charge level, time, status of alerts - Smooth handcrank motion Cons of the Raynic5000 - 1 year Warranty in comparison to Full Lifetime Warranty of FosPower4000 - Handcrank comes loose from cradle very easily and is a little irritating - Pathetic carabiner included So, which one did I pick? It was a difficult decision because they are both excellent units, however, I ended up picking the Raynic5000! Why? Well, because, while it was difficult to forego the top-notch build quality and lifetime warranty of the FosPower, the Raynic had all the features that make it worthy of purchase while not suffering too much from its build quality; which really isn’t bad at all. It’s just not as good as its competitor.

    5. Don’t recommend

Did (too) much research on a portable NOAA radio for our remote camping trips and this came highly rated. We don’t love it: Trying get the NOAA weather station to come in was made challenging bc of the analog tuner which stinks compared to a digital tuner. This was really super annoying. There’s an indicator light that always shows red like it’s not charged when it is. Annoying. It’s NOT very loud even when the volume is all the way up. Wish the antenna were longer. We did charge a phone on it which was nice. But since we got this radio primarily to get weather reports and this radio did not do well at this, we do recommend.

    6. works great except for one thing
      Rating

It seems to be a great product, except that you cant get the emergency station during emergenices. I purchased this because we live in a rural area without dependable internet or television. I wanted it to switch on when there was an emergency broadcast but that is not an option. You can tune it to a worldband station that continually repeats the days weather, but who wants to listen to that all day. I bought this for emergencies, and it does not have the option of switching on just for the emergency broadcast like other emergency radios do. If it had that particular feature, like so many other emergency radios do, then I would give it five stars.

    7. IP Rating is a little low for the application
      Rating
      60%
I had this radio out in the rain for hours and it died. Only the radio portion. It will still charge, light works and so does the SOS portion. I was surprised to see it died when it was listed as an outdoor/ EM radio and came back to look at the listing. I see now (didn’t look before) that the IP rating for water ingress is only a 3. Which basically gives you around 5 minutes of safely being in the rain. I know I went well past it’s spec’d rating. Again though I am very surprised to see such a low water ingress protection rating this radio carries if I were hoping to rely on it in an emergency situation.

Seems like a great place to start in preparedness mindset!! Works decently and as decent enough for the cost. I was surprised. It isn’t the best but in Phoenix az it okay for the Lowe price it was at the time. Under 30$
